This driver includes the new NVIDIA Driver Manager preference pane, as well as an optional menu bar item for quick access to the preference pane and basic functions. The preference pane can be accessed normally through the System Preferences. It requires the user to click on the padlock icon and enter an Administrator password to make changes, and contains the following functionality: GRAPHICS DRIVER TAB: Within this tab, the user can switch between the NVIDIA Web Driver and the default NVIDIA graphics driver that is included with OS X v10.10.0 (14A389).
If the user switches between drivers, they must click the Restart button for changes to take effect. ECC TAB: Within this tab, the user can enable or disable ECC functionality on supported graphics cards. The user will see a list of their system’s PCI-E slots and any devices installed in them. If a device supports ECC, the user will be able to check the Enable Error Correcting Codes box next to the list. If the device does not support ECC then the box will be grayed out. Once the user makes changes to ECC, they will be required to restart the system.
NOTE: Currently, the only NVIDIA graphics card that supports ECC functionality is the NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac. Enabling ECC requires a portion of the graphics card’s usable memory size and bandwidth. In the Graphics/Displays section of your System Information, you may notice the “VRAM (Total)” amount of your NVIDIA Quadro K5000 drops from 4096 MB to 3584 MB when ECC is enabled. This is normal. UPDATES TAB: This tab shows the version number of the NVIDIA Web Driver that is currently installed on the system and also allows the user to check for updates online. By clicking the Check Now button, the NVIDIA Driver Manager will ping NVIDIA’s master server to see if there is a newer version of the NVIDIA Web Driver available. There are also checkboxes for the user to allow the NVIDIA Driver Manager to check automatically for updates and to download them when available.
If a new NVIDIA Web Driver is downloaded automatically, the user will be notified when it’s ready to be installed. Automatic checking is on by default. MENU BAR ITEM AND UNINSTALLER: The NVIDIA Driver Manager also includes a checkbox to toggle a menu bar item on and off, and a button to open an Uninstaller app. The menu bar item includes the functionality of the Graphics Driver tab and a shortcut to launch the NVIDIA Driver Manager.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Dell Studio 14z, Dell Studio 14, and possibly a Toshiba Satellite M500. Okay, I've been attempting to run WoW on my current late-2008 Mac laptop with less than stellar results, so I'm looking for a new refurb that'll actually be able to run Legion. My current specs are as follows: Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB I know my processor is well below minimum requirements, but the way NVIDIA numbers their graphics cards confuses me, and I'm not sure if my current graphics card is actually fine (meaning it would be fine to get a refurb with the same card) or if there's something I'm missing, as Legion's recommended specs is for a NVIDIA GeForce GT 775M. That said, the refurbs I'm looking at have these graphics cards (as they appear on the listing), and I need somebody who actually understands all this to let me know if any of them will work (and which one would be best, if there is more than one viable one): NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB (mid-2010) NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB (mid-2009) NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB (mid-2010) NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256MB (mid-2009) NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB (mid-2010) NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512MB (late-2008) Thank you for any help anybody can give me. Yes, I'm aware that all of these computers are still old, and believe me, if I could buy a recent refurb and guarantee working specs, I'd be doing that.
Also, I'm not in any way a hardcore player - I'm perfectly content with low specs and 20 FPS (anything more than that would be performance levels I've not had in a very long time). The issue is that even at the lowest possible settings, with nothing else running on a freshly-rebooted computer, I can sit in my garrison for about 10 minutes before my FPS tanks to the single digits. I can't even get the PTR to run at all (it locks up in under a minute of booting). As I've already pre-ordered Legion, the only apparent way I'll be able to play it is if I sink some money into upgrading what I can. Honestly none of those are good enough for legion, none of them at all. Fps will still tank to single digits, if it even runs at all. You need something newer than 2010 or older era if it comes to a macbook.
Nvidia Geforce 310m Driver 9.18.13
Desktop computers like a mac pro or imac from that era lasted longer because they were more powerful and the mac pro especially because it was upgradable. But a macbook is already a throw away machine so an old one is a paper weight at this point when it comes to gaming. Keep it around for travel, typing, web surfing, chatting/skyping or as a portable dvd player (since older models actually still had cd drives).
As a gaming machine though it's pretty useless these days except for playing some classics. Short guide would be that once nvida hits 9XXX on their graphics card numbering they 'reset' to 3 digit numbers. Note they hit 9XX on the previous gen and are now at 10X0.
First number (4 or 3 digits) is the generation of the card (larger newer/better 987. Second number is the ranking within the generation - Again larger the better. 8 being Top End, 7 being lower version of 8, 6 is upper mid range, 5 is really about the lowest you'd want. A 9 usually indicates a card with two GPUs on it. None have been made usable with OSX. Third or 4th are not consistently used.
They sometimes use it to distinguish between variants of mobile chips. Mhmmm, I have a GTX980 (Mac Pro 5,1) and as far as I know, it doesn't have dual GPUs. AND nVidia does provide what is called 'web drivers' for it to operate on a Mac. To the OP, one option is to get a Mac Pro tower where you can easily change the video card.
